Destiny Rising Officially Launches on Mobile With New Storylines and Features

The Destiny franchise has officially expanded to mobile. Destiny Rising, developed by NetEase Games in collaboration with Bungie, has launched today, bringing players into an alternate timeline within the Destiny universe with new heroes, new mechanics, and a fresh story.

A New Timeline and Story

Destiny Rising takes place in a post–Dark Age era, where a new generation of Lightbearers rises to rebuild humanity. Unlike the mainline games, players won’t just create their own Guardian—they’ll also step into the roles of multiple named characters with unique powers. The storyline introduces brand-new heroes while also featuring familiar figures from Destiny’s past.

Features Available at Launch

At launch, Destiny Rising delivers a range of systems and activities designed to feel both familiar to Destiny fans and fresh for new players:

  • PvE and PvP modes for cooperative and competitive play.

  • The return of Sparrow Racing, a fan-favorite activity.

  • Dual-wield combat for added variety in firefights.

  • Exotic weapons including The Huckleberry and Izanagi’s Burden.

  • Seamless switching between first-person and third-person perspectives.

  • Additional features, such as crossbows and even player housing, long-requested by the community.

The game also features original campaigns set across multiple destinations, expanding the lore of the Destiny universe in a new direction.

Monetization and Player Concerns

Destiny Rising adopts a gacha-based system, where many characters and powers are unlocked through randomized draws. While common in mobile RPGs, this approach may be controversial for Destiny players accustomed to expansions and cosmetics rather than pay-to-win mechanics.

Like many gacha titles, Destiny Rising begins with a generous reward system, but analysts caution that spending requirements often increase over time to maintain competitiveness.

What This Means for the Franchise

Destiny Rising marks the first new entry in the series since the launch of Destiny 2 in 2017. Its arrival comes at a critical time for the franchise, as Destiny 2 faces growing criticism over its grind-heavy progression and limited content variety.

Although designed for mobile, Destiny Rising can also be played on PC through supported emulators, potentially attracting both mobile and traditional Destiny players.

With its mix of new gameplay systems, fan-favorite features, and a fresh storyline, Destiny Rising could both reinvigorate the franchise and reshape the conversation around its future—though the impact of its gacha model remains to be seen.

How big is the game in terms of storage? (game size)
Right now, the game takes up about 14GB after downloading all resources. It’s not too heavy, but not exactly light either—just the right size for most modern mobile phones.
